Exhibition
Everything which is expressed or comprehended in another form first solidifies and then falls apart. And that is how it came to be that suddenly there is so much empty space around. It is evident that the more we try to fill up the space, the more of it remains.Emptiness multiplies when we try to fill it. Emptiness therefore is the antithesis of silence. Silence interferes with emptiness by not giving it any new space. Therefore it is necessary to be silent.
Since there are no longer listeners to hear any new utterances.
The longer the message, the more it resembles silence. Even white noise, if perceived from a sufficient distance, acts as silence. All around us are broken pieces of culture. From each piece something can be read. Mostly however, we see that the piece is torn from a whole and cannot be replaced. If we were to glue all the pieces back together, we would only get a makeshift corpse, deader than ever.
Silence is intelligible in spite of the fact that it may be construed in various ways. It is one of few things which has maintained its homogeneity. Silence is large and consistent.
Let there be silence then.
Artamonov and Klyuykov (both born in Russia) are cooperating together on Prague art scene since 2005. Using various media (video-performance, installation, painting) the thematic scope of their works moves from ethic and sociopolitical to art-historical problems.
This exhibition is realised in collaboration between Kisterem and Impex, with the support of the Artist Residency Program of the International Visegrad Fund.
