INDOOR
Three walls, each assigned to an artist, from the cora of Kisterem’s exhibition. Each functions like a pinboard above a desktop, where one posts currently important information. Anything can be pasted, from photos and drawings, through texts and objects to a small display and even the walls can function as notepads for ideas and sketches. Influencing and reflecting on one another, the walls become monuments to the process wherein the present becomes the past. The three invited artists are linked by more than their age: they all work typically in new media and also make experimental films and prints.
In the public space surrounding the gallery, subversive spatial manoeuvres are performed by students of BME and MOME who participate in the Detournement of space – working group that Antal Lakner set up at the Public Architecture Department of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The young university students’ action seeks to reinterpret that section of Képíró Street around Kisterem as a mental and emotional construct which appears for pedestrians, to transform the character and mood of space as it is experienced.

2008 is the "Renaissance Year" in our country.
1458-2008
The organisers and cultural workers of the Renaissance Year 2008 consider it extremely important that certain portions of the technological investments produced this year receive an artistic design in connection with the cultural season. In order to encourage this – similarly to the Hungarian Universitas Programme, investors undertook according to their contracts, to appropriate 1% of the total value of developments launched toward the production of new, contemporary compositions of fine and applied art, representing a portion of the projects, thereby significantly raising the aesthetic level of new technical projects.
The main ventilation shaft for the Kálvin tér station of metro line 4, the Matthias Ventilation Shaft, designed by the Detournement of space – working group of the Budapest University of Technology (BME), erects an enduring monument to serve the public interest, to King Matthias, who was enthroned 550 years ago. The design group took as a basis in modelling and installing the ventilation shaft, the indivisible unit of present and future, when they inserted this modern industrial form into the fabric of the historical quarter at Képiró Street. Paying their respects to the old, but discovering the new.
The new metro line is already a symbol of the renewal, rebirth, renaissance of the city, and a ventilation shaft forming the pronounced incarnation of King Matthias on this site addresses people receptive to the culture of the street.
