Valkó, owner of Kisterem, has been dealing with fine arts for several years. She was an assistant curator in contemporary art galleries, then opened her own business with a partner: a consultancy for classical modern and contemporary art. She opened her own private contemporary art gallery when she felt that the market within Hungary had become more open to collecting all kinds of art forms, and when she recognised the possibility of showing and selling various types of media works, not only traditional ones and not only by Hungarian, but also by international artists.

Margit Valkó had followed the activities of the Hungarian avant-garde underground art scene from the 80s, when during her studies she turned toward contemporary art and when it became more tolerated than before. However, these artworks were hardly accessible then for a broader public and it was almost impossible to imagine then, that these artworks could ever become part of public or private collections. Some of them did, but many of them got lost or damaged. Now alongside a gallery program with very recent artworks, Kisterem occasionally shows works that could be traced from this period: such as the exhibition of Zuzu/Vető, the installation, Roman Numbers, by János Sugár. or the Photo exhibition by Miklós Erdély and the Indigo Group.

The gallery Kisterem is located in the centre of the city, in an old street, a very pleasant pedestrian zone, which hosts other contemporary art galleries.

Kisterem looks forward to cooperating with other art institutions inside and out of Hungary, and for a flexible information exchange.
